 Jazz is the quintessential musical expression of the 20th Century. Like most Americans we're proud that it is hailed as our unique contribution to world culture. In addition, we embrace Jazz as a gem of African American cultural heritage. Duke Ellingtion said it should be honored in a higher sense than mere entertainment. Jazz, the musical tradition of Ellington, Armstrong, Bird, Monk, Coltrane and the other masters is a serious art form that stems from a unique culture that has extraordinary social and spiritual value.
